Hi Charles,
64 Bit was my first try on FreeBSD. I gave up at the point, where I was
unable to terminate the assp process using 'kill -2 pid'. I was also
running in to several problems with Perl modules that are using XS-code.
Building the i386 variant, I was running in to the same 'kill ..' problem
- wich was solved by a major logic and code redesign in assp.pl. After
that changes , the systembuild was more or less 'a routine piece of work'
- the FreeBSD handbooks are helping . Btw. the Perl i386 with 64Bit INT
support (5.18.1) makes the same problems like the full 64Bit variant.
If I have some time left over , I'll try the 64Bit FreeBSD again. How ever
- such a system will require a large amount of memory (~ two times of the
i386) - without having any major runtime advantage.
There will be a performance advantage with the 64 Bit OS, but this is only
required for very havy loaded systems. I think only one percent (or less)
of the assp users will require this performance - all of them are ISP's -
and those should have the money to build PowerPC 7 RISC systems using AIX
(or similar) and they will have the knowledge or money to build the assp
system on there own.

Any reason that you opted for 32bit? I would much prefer a 64bit version.
