Questions:
1) This will likely be a Windows 2012 r2 box, so 64 bit. Any specific
issues on W2k12? Is it preferable to use an older OS?

----- Windows 2012 r2 is fine - BUT use a 32 bit Perl !!
----- Don't mix any 32 and 64 bit components used by assp - always use 32
bit!
----- If you expect assp will require more than 4GB RAM - use a 64 bit nix
system - with all 64 bit components.

2) The Win32 quickstart guide that is in the new install zip file that I
just downloaded says:

4) Install the latest OpenSSL version 0.9.x (don't use version 1.x.x on
production systems)
http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html

Is that still advisable?

----- NO - use the latest OpenSSL (will have to look at - is this still
written there ???)

3) Also that quickstart says to use activestate perl 5.12. That can't be
up to date can it? What's recommended, 5.16, 5.18? Lower?

----- 5.16.x is recommended for windows - there is still no repo for
5.18.x available at ActiveState
----- If your skills are really high, you can build mysql, Perl 5.18 and
all modules from source. (horror on windows)
----- This is also the only way to get 64 bit running on windows.

4) Database

a) Now that I'm hoping to use HMM, I need a database (right?). What's
recommended MySQL or BerkleyDB? I saw the post by Thomas that said that
BerkleyDB is now stable with perl 5.16/5.18, but I don't know if that's
better than using MySQL.

----- BerkeleyDB should work fine - but MySQL data are much better to
maintain (I use MySQL)
----- It is recommended to use BerkeleyDB for griplist and the temp
rebuild databases

a) Is there an up to date guide on moving from flat files to a proper
database?

----- Yes , the GUI - > File Paths and Database
and the assp_database_readme.txt file

Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

----- just do it - better slow and smart than fast and stupid

Betreff: [Assp-test] Install advise on new Windows box

I'm going to be starting from scratch on a new Windows install, but
migrating data over from an older 2.x install. That current install uses
all flat files, no database.

Questions:
1) This will likely be a Windows 2012 r2 box, so 64 bit. Any specific
issues on W2k12? Is it preferable to use an older OS?

2) The Win32 quickstart guide that is in the new install zip file that I

4) Install the latest OpenSSL version 0.9.x (don't use version 1.x.x on
production systems)

up to date can it? What's recommended, 5.16, 5.18? Lower?

4) Database

database?

Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.
