Alon,

Thank you for the response but we have realized that how  I described the redlist is incorrect.

The verbiage is indeed very clear and correct.

Although as a rule I don’t send an explanation email more than 10-15 lines long… some users have a tendency to ignore or postpone reading these emails.

I usually start out with sending an email explaining SPAM and NOTSPAM, and even in that email I bold out the 2 or 3 sentences which are most important.

I only send a more specific email after about a week so that the more tech savvy users could benefit from ASSP in the best way possible.

Just my 0.02$...

Alon

Awesome!  Thank you Travis!  If no one objects, I'll compare this to might notes to see if anything is missing (on either side) and add it to the Wiki.

If anyone has alternative verbiage (dumbed-down for less-technical users), please - speak up!

This probably wont get posted for a day or two.  I'm going to run it by my marketing editor for context and clarity.

I've pasted below what I believe should be given to users once ASSP is brought on live initially.  It is not accurate in detail because its purpose is to be given to users and not tech personal.

Reporting to ASSP (Anitspam SMTP Proxy)

Whitelist/NotWhiteList:

A white list is a list of senders that when an email is received from a sender on the white list the email will be allowed in.

·         Anyone you email will never have a message blocked. People you email will automatically be white listed.

·         There are two ways to white list a sender. The first is to send him or her an email, and the second is to forward as an attachment an email you have received from them to [EMAIL PROTECTED].

·         If you want to remove a sender from the white list, forward as an attachment an email you have received from him or her to [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Redlist/NotRedList:

A red list is a list of senders who send you emails that have the same qualities as unwanted spam; a red list is also a list of sender who send you emails that you will never respond to. If the received email has spam qualities and/or you will not respond to the email, the sender of the email must be redlisted.

When to redlist:

  • You receive email from a department store informing you about a sale they are having; You receive email every Friday informing you of the weather forecast for the upcoming week.

1.      Condition 1: store sales catalog email → has spam qualities → redlist sender

2.      Condition 2: store sales catalog email → you will not respond to it → redlist sender

3.      Condition 3: store sales catalog email → condition 1 and condition 2 are true → redlist sender

4.      Condition 4: weather forecast email → only condition 2 is true → redlist sender

How to redlist:

  • To redlist a sender, forward as an attachment an email you have received from them to [EMAIL PROTECTED].
  • To remove a sender from the redlist, forward as an attachment an email you have received from them to [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Spam/NotSpam:

When an email with an attachment is sent to the spam report email address, the attachment is stripped from the email and analyzed The results are then added to the bad content portion of the database. When an email with an attachment is sent to the not spam report email address, the attachment is stripped from the email and analyzed by the system. The results are removed from the bad content portion of the database and added to the good content portion of the database.

·         If you receive an email that is spam, forward the email as an attachment to s[EMAIL PROTECTED].

Test Mode:

·         While in test mode, ASSP allows all email in. If the system believes the email is spam, it will still let it in. The purpose of test mode is to give everyone time to whitelist, redlist, and fine tune the accuracy of the ASSP system by reporting to the spam and/or the notspam report addresses.

·         While the system is in Test Mode, emails the system believes are spam will have [Spam] appended to the subject line. If you receive a legitimate email that is marked [Spam], forward the email as an attachment to [EMAIL PROTECTED].
