A message of 20000 has roughly 5 times the number of words compared to
a message of 4000. 5 messages of 4000 gives you the same number of
words but more sources.
If you define e.g. maxsize 20000 some messages with this length will
contribute more to the database than the average SPAM ( 4 K ) or HAM (
8 K ). You end up with the number of messages unnessary low.
(Besides that, the number of words for HAM will tend to be double that
of SPAM).

So reducing maxbytes gives you the possibility of handling more
different messages, more sources.
