Michael,
I uninstalled Perl. Deleted the Perl directory.
Re-installed Perl. I then installed Net::DNS from CPAN.
C:\Perl>perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install Net::DNS
When completed, that install ran 1057 DNS tests, including
A record and TXT records successfully. Time required according to the test
harness was 12 Wall Clock seconds. It could not have been more than 30 real
seconds.
I turned on Reverse and MX/A and restarted ASSP. It started
hanging again.
I am starting to be convinced that it is an issue betweeen
ASSP.and Net::DNS.

Micheal,
Just before you posted your original message, I posted a
message about ASSP hanging for various amounts of time from seconds to
minutes. I have been following your posts. Just to give you a little feedback,
I had started turning off functionality item-by-item and restarting. As I
started turning off items that used Net-DNS, the hangs started diminishing in
frequency and duration. With SPF, RBL, and Reverse (which I had forgotten) the
hangs are apparently gone.
Did you pull your Net::DNS from CPAN or else where?
C:\Perl> ppm3 install Net-DNS
vs
C:\Perl>perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install Net::DNS

OK. So here is what I have been able to surmise: If LocalPolicySPF is
blank (at this location), all SPF checks time-out. after 30~45 seconds.
If LocalPolicySPF is populated with default info, SPF succeeds within 1
second... At my primary installation of ASSP, I do not have this field
populated and I do not have any issues.
But now I am seeing a 20 second time-out during the SPF function while
it is doing the A record query (watch for wrap):
To
add to this, with SPF and RBL *off*, the DoReversed check (the only feature marked with a
Net::DNS requirement) is taking about a minute to
complete:
---------- Nov-1-06 23:34:25 24.93.47.44 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
renewing whitelisted tuplet: (24.93.47.0,houston.rr.com) age: 12h 23m

to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] passing is safe because
testmode, otherwise Validate Sender: Missing PTR
record ----------
Plus, I was mistaken about RBL
working. Its timing out. It just wasn't so obvious in the normal logs
entries. Its logging as a pass, but its clear that not all required
RBLs responded to the query.
I have downgraded Perl and some of the
modules without any change in behavior. I am truly dumbfounded at the
moment.
