ASSP sits in FRONT of your MTA - so, in other words, no unauthenticated connections should be allowed, EXCEPT from ASSP. It sounds to me like your problem is simply that you must limit connections to your MTA from: 1. ASSP, and 2. Authenticated Users Deny everything else.
