I admit to misunderstanding the "greeting delay" concept, but I don't
understand your point about your objection to it.

say I adopt greylisting as a defense against spam (I'll use greylisting
as the term instead of the "session delaying" term that is so close to
"greeting delay")  If I don't have a properly configured mail server
then I'm not going to be able to properly handle greylisting either.

Now in some circles the standard response to mail server configuration
problems has been "tell him to fix his mail server and then try to send
me mail again"

I guess I see a distinction without a difference.  Greeting delaying is
a way to "draw your opponent offsides" to use a football analogy.

It is that penalty that you are looking for.

greylisting is more like a "time out charged to the officials" that does
not really penalize either player and play can not continue till the ref
calls "time in."

I see value in both approaches, am I missing something?
