That does not affect the HELO/EHLO --- that greeting is simply recorded in 
getline, then relayed through to the MTA (postfix in this case)

I think we have a case of postfix validating the HELO and deciding it ought 
to be localhost.localdomain based on the 127.0.0.1

Do we know what helo greeting is being sent?

Can you reproduce the postfix behavior with a spoofed smtp session 
telnetting to your disguised postfix listen address?
