Yo don't need either local flat file or LDAP - but you are encouraged to use one of these methods to filter dictonary attacks or spam to unknown users directly in ASSP before they reach your MTA.
If you do not validate the local users in ASSP, your Mailserver Software has to handle these wrong requests. - And for instance Imail does this job very bad and could be nearly DOSed by a dictonary attack. ASSP filters it without problems and will also rise the Penalty Blocking score with every unknown adress. Matti > I'm rather confused here.....
