I believe this second server misbehaved:
It connected to your mail server, they said helo, the sending server said
"mail from: ...", your server said ok, the sender said "rcpt to: ...", your
server said "550 5.1.1 User unknown"...
Now the other should have said "quit" or stated another recipient but it
said "data" to initiate the transfer of the content of the mail to which
your server replied "no no, I don't accept the mail if you don't give me a
valid recipient to deliver to!" (503 5.5.2 Need Recipient)
What's also strange is that the error says "<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: host
xxx.xxx.com[ip] said: 503 5.5.2 Need Recipient (in reply to MAIL FROM
command)"
The sending server thinks the "503 5.5.2 Need Recipient"-reply was to its
"mail from" instead of to its "rcpt to"...
"503 5.5.2 Need Recipient" is only replied to the data-command...
