I have had ASSP 1.2.6 running for over a month and have had great results
thus far.
We have a Domino server running on two sites, interconnected via a (slow)
leased line. Previously, the setup was for all outbound and inbound mail is
sent via the main office connection to the internet. This works nicely for
ASSP, but we are trying to reduce delays due to WAN bottleneck.
Internet -> ASSP -> SMTP host -> Domino -> clients
Internet <- SMTP host <- ASSP <- Domino <- clients
I have recently installed ASSP and an SMTP host on the second site, so that
outbound mail for those users would be delivered direct through their own
connection to the internet. Their IP is also configured as a secondary MX. I
initially replicated the whitelist and other important files as a starting
point.
The issue is that after a while, the difference in mailing patterns will
cause some inbound mail to be rejected by the other side's ASSP. Outbound
mail addresses whitelisted from the secondary MX server would not be added
to the primary MX server, and vice versa.
Is there a way to "synchronize" the two on a regular basis?
The wiki suggests:
How do I set up ASSP to run with redundant MX domains?
Two options:
1) Put the important files (whitelist, spam/, notspam/, & errors/) on
a shared network drive.
2) Sync files (with rsync or a similar program). Just keep the latest
copy of each file, and only run rebuildspamdb
on one server. You'd need to do something to keep the .cfg files and
maillogs from getting clobbered.
But option 1 is difficult as the WAN connection is slow. Option 2 seems
unclear to me because I don't think the resulting db's will be a union of
the updated db's on each site.
Appreciate any inputs ...
