But you're not 'bouncing' an email back to the sender. You are simply sending 
back an SMTP error code/message. 
That does look like a good compromise. I don't see a downside to doing this and 
it *could* fix some false positives, but I still think that most casual users 
wouldn't understand it.
Things like listserv registration confirmations or online order confirmations 
still won't be able to respond to the error but at least you're not trying to 
send them an email.
