The only time I have experienced anything similar was when I was experiencing
and issue with Net::DNS.

IIRC, the lock-up was temporary while Net::DNS choked and timed out.

Subject: [Assp-user] ASSP Locking Up
To: "Questions and Answers for users of ASSP Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy"
<[email protected]>Reply-To: Questions and Answers for users of
ASSP Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy <[email protected]>

Since upgrading to ASSP 1.3.1, we have had intermittent problems with
ASSP locking up and not responding. I have spent hours combing through logs
and watching SMTP connections in real time trying to figure out
what is going on and have had no luck. On seemingly "random" occasions, ASSP
will suddenly lock up... I will be unable to get to the web
interface (it times out), no one will be able to send or receive e-mails
(the SMTP connection opens but times out). ASSP doesn't seem to be
totally unresponsive as log entries showing the timeouts still show up when I
check the log file (and the CPU usage stays at right around 1% on the server).

The only common thread I can find is that there is usually an incoming e-mail
with an attachment that shows up in the log before ASSP locks up. But, it isn't
any specific sender or specific attachment and not every attachment causes ASSP
to lock up. Usually just a stop/start of the
service will allow ASSP to recover.

Has anyone else seen any problems like
