Can someone recommend a free text editor for windows that won’t mangle unix text files?

Textpad work very well for this, adds a context menu item which makes it very easy to open items, searches inside files for text and does regular _expression_ searches, block select, etc. etc.

It's not free but has an everlasting trial period and is inexpensive.
I use it so often I might just buy it, and I never buy software.
