without year you'll have log files named as:

MM-DD.maillog.txt

So, next year the file will be rewrited.

It's easier for everyone of us that just save log files for one year. Law in
our country says that ISPs must save their logs for one year.

How would removing the year make it "easier"?

I have logs going back almost 2 years.
