Thats absoluteley one of the killing situations. My favourised Test was sending a 150 MB mail in 2 threads over my google-account, so that the delivery reaches bandwith limits. Under windows PERL died almost, checking the taskmanager shows that per.exe and "system" have 50% load each. And it eats the whole memory. The delivery-time was above 30 minutes. Now, on the same hardware with a higher softwarestack is goes faster, needs less memory and amost NO CPU. So the main Problem is the memoryhandler from Windows - that is a fact - and this is not the only situation where this error shows up to me. Its M$s politic to not documentate how that works correctly - but thats something for another thread/Mailinglist. After 11 years of Windows-Servers on-line I started 6 month ago with Linux for ASSP, and now more than 70% of my Webservers are Liniux-based (all VMs). "Black Magic" ? Administration is handicraft and has nothing to do with magic - it depends on the qualification of the admin how good the systems run, but the OS defines the borders of possibilities.
