Ther is actually no single user guide, just the ASSP Wiki. It looks as the original Documentation is missing on the Sourcforge webpage. Maybe someone can post it to the wiki again.
You will find a lot of information in the Wiki: http://www.asspsmtp.org There are Several ways to Build up your own email corpus for building the basian Database. First, staring in Testmode is the right solution (especially for the basian test). During the training phase, ASSP will put all Mail send from your users to anybody into the notspam folder and will put the reciepient in the whitelist. Answers from Whitelistet adresses will also go into the notspam folder. So it is necessary to route outgoing emails to assp as well. Otherwise, the baysian filter and whitelisting will not work. To correct false detections, go to the spam/notspam folders. Move all Spam mails from notspam folder to errors/spam Move all NotSpam mails from Spam folder to errors/notspam If you have collected a larger number of mails (some thousend), switch of "Use Subject as Maillog Names (UseSubjectsAsMaillogNames)" and run "move2num.pl" this will rename all files in the collection folders to numbers. ASSP will then automatically overwrite old files by a weigthed randomized order and will remove outdated messages from your corpus automatically. Next use the assp mail interface to correct the corpus: Tell your users to send false categorized emails to the spam/notspam adress of the email interface (as an attachment to optain the full unchanged header) or copy all mails to a single account and forward false positives/negatives yourself. The Corpus will grow and grow until it reaches Max Files (MaxFiles). Do not delete mails from the corpus. Assp will care for them alone if you use the numbers as filenames. Now Schedule rebuildspamdb.pl to run every night. depending on the number of files it would need 30-90 minutes to run. As rebuildspamdb is CPU and disk intensive, run it during low load hours. After the rebuild run, ASSP will use the words from your collecting directories for the baysian filtering. Use this http://www.iworld.de/homes/fb/ASSP/S05BB20E1?WasRead=1 spamdb before you run rebuildspam.pl the first time. Do this not before you collected several thousend spam and notspam emails. It is impotant that you have an equal number of spam and notspam emails in your corpus. You can adjust this by changing the "Files Distribution (FilesDistribution)" setting.
