Check assp.cfg and verify that "logfile" is set corretly.

  Still no go on the logs saved to the local file system, but the syslogs are 
working so my immediate problem is resolved.  Thank you for the help.

    I don't see that 1.4.3.0.111614 is posted.  Seems to be the same version I 
already have from http://assp.sourceforge.net/
