Jep,

I did. However i did not do an upgrade, but installed a source perl tarball 
into a different path ( afaik it installs default into /usr/local/bin instead 
of the /usr/bin). Afterwards i changed the init.d scripts to use the perl 5.10 
install.
Afaik there is no rpm for perl 5.10 centos!
