Use the 32bits version of Perl, pick version 5.10 since
the 5.12 may still have some "glitches" and, if possible,
given the platform you're planning to use, pick ASSP
v2 instead of the v1 since the v2 is fully multhithreaded
and will allow you to better leverage system capabilities

As for the choice of 32bits Perl, it's due to the fact that a
lot of modules ASSP uses (either v1 or v2) don't exist for
the 64 bits architecture
