This list is less used than the dev list. I use the 1.9 series, but switched to 2.x for a new install because I wanted to take advantage of the TLS feature, which is better supported in 2.x. It was fairly easy and not at all difficult to set up. I wouldn't hesitate to make the switch. Have your settings handy from the 1.9 install and get to it.
