I think you're right, not even me want to whitelist local addresses.

Regarding the original problem I have this configuration:
- ASSP 1.99 (14059)
- redRe: identical to
http://assp.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/assp/asspV1/files/redre.txt
- acceptAllMail: only the LAN IP, external users can SMTP with username and
password on port 587
- localDomains: only local domains authorized to send and receive mail
- NotGreedyWhitelist: flagged
- WhitelistLocalOnly: NOT flagged
- WhitelistLocalFromOnly: flagged
- WhitelistAuth: flagged
- UpdateWhitelist: 360
- DoVRFY: flagged, with Found Cache and NotFound Cache perfectly valid
- vrfyDomains: one row for each local domain, followed by =>127.0.0.1:1025
- VRFYforceRCPTTO: 127.0.0.1:1025
