I too have suffered from this restriction of not being able to forwarding
messages to external accounts, but it should be kept in mind that this
setting prevents spammers who take possession of valid local usernames and
passwords to send spam around the globe, with the consequence of
blacklisting the IP of the server.

A proper setting for these forwards, I think, is to set up a line of
transport for every external forward, I am referring in particular to
Postfix. It gets the dual effect of making known to the mail server
administrator to know exactly how many forwards are there, and to who they
are addressed.

But it would even more brilliant, I think, to have a configuration file in
ASSP, where one can enter these addresses to forward, so administration
remain centralized in assp, and one don't disturb Mr. Postfix.
