For over 10 years now I used to run my own mail server for my personal
domain, with ASSP since early times, when config options were still
comprehensible to me ;)

Recently, my server, running on a 1st gen Mac Mini (PowerPC) got invaded
(it can only run up to OS X 10.4) and abused as a spam relay.

I've since moved my MX to my current web hoster and abandoned my own mail
server.

Unfortunately, that web hoster has a rather bad spam filter, based on
spamassassin. I'd expect that nowadays such a supposedly widespread spam
filter would use the web (cloud?) to exchange information about spam with
other mail servers, making it an efficient tool to recognize spam, just
like Gmail accomplishes it. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.

So, what are my options to get back better spam control?

Shall I find a professional mail provider that runs ASSP? If so, will they
let me have control over the spam, add my own corrections to false
positives? Can I define my own honeytraps etc?

Or are there, besides Gmail, other providers who have a more efficient spam
filtering system, relying on their users to mark spam and using heuristics
to filter out spam reliably?
