Guess I omitted a few details, but I was just mentioning it more for the 
record than for resolution. Pretty sure its system specific till others run 
into same or similar issue.

I will have to check versions of other stuff. I am pretty sure some perl 
encryption modules were updated recently. Lots of perl updates in past weeks 
from looking at logs. Might be either test modules and/or an Encode one not 
sure. I have tried re-compiling and installing perl and all modules.

Remote server, but being local would not make much difference.

The password prompt comes up, the admin web sever is running and working. It 
just does not accept any password.

Allow connections from is set, but it has been the same for many years. 
Nothing has changed configuration wise.

Its present, but I am connected via VPN, so have full access, no firewall 
blocking ports on VPN.
