Don't worry - 5.20 will work. And yes there are differences - the largest
is the supported unicode version. From the admin point of view, you'll not
see any differences.
To track down all changes from 5.20 to 5.24 you need to read all perldelta
documents for all dev steps

Maintening Strawberry Perl for assp is much more easy than Active Perl -
except the installation of NetSNMP::agent, which needs a MSVC compiler
instead of gcc.

Circling back on this. With the current 2017 dev versions of ASSP, it
there any functional difference or downside if we're using ActiveState
5.20 (on Windows) vs your relocatable Strawberry perl zip?
I don't want to be running a different version of Perl than you're using
for dev, but it may be a while before I can properly migrate (and test)
production to this new version. I know 5.20 will be supported until at
least 2018 - but does that mean the idea is to have it fully supported, as
in all things will work as well under it as 5.24 or future newer versions?

Within 2018 - all perl versions lower than 5.020000 (5.20.0) will get an
unsupported state in relation with assp V2.
