thanks Michal the patch led me to the problem in src/cmd/INIT/MAPLIB.mk background Mamfile's are generated from nmake Makefile's as part of the packaging process there's a bit of delayed black magic in that process to prevent packaging host attributes from bleeding in to the Mamfiles and thus interfering with build host attributes
