Good question... I usually log-in via the graphical login using the
GB18030 locale to get a desktop which uses the GB18030 locale and then
ssh from there into the Linux box to get the same locale there...

AFAIK options are:
- Use $ LC_ALL=zh_CN.GB18030 konsole # to run he KDE konsole terminal
emulator in the GB18030 locale
- luit(1) (but I didn't use it for many many years)

Maybe Werner and/or Michal know better ways...

P.S.: The original issue with the "heredoc.sh" test is not limited to
the "zh_CN.GB18030" locale... it also happens in the "C" locale...
