part of the bebefit of ast pax is the alternate format plugins the plugins only build with nmake because it probes for and maintains has the compiler/linker/runtime incantations for plugin support the smallest package that has pax & nmake would be the ast-make package ast-base would also work -- it adds tw and the libcmd commands
