I have the package build-essential installed and also all the required
tools to build debian packages, and more precisely to build ksh debian
package which is based on ast-ksh 93u+20120801 and which builds
correctly on my test box.

Note that ksh 2013-06-28 also gets build without problem:
gio@testing:~/test/sources/build20130628$ arch/linux.i386-64/bin/ksh
--version
  version sh (AT&T Research) 93v- 2013-06-28

Thank you for your help.
Best regards.
