A small followup - after rereading Henk Langeveld timings (I was
hoping he had used the same file as I reported), I noticed his file
size is something like 2.5 times what I had used.

So took that file and cat'd it 3 times and tried again. On all of the
fast tests, it's what one expects you multiply the number I reported
by roughly 3.

For bash and ksh it's still reasonable in that you still multiply by
about 3. zsh however I killed after 7 minutes. To be fair to zsh, I
don't know of a way to use read to read an array variable, so I had to
add an assignment inside the loop.
