That's because you're not teaching a class in which students are asked to write CPU-intensive codes. Typical user CPU for a single test may range from 10 sec to multiple minutes depending on the skill of the student. Multiply that by one or two dozen tests times a couple of dozen students and pretty soon parallelism starts to look very attractive...
