It has been fixed with "JM 93t+ 2010-02-02"
09-11-17  "read -n1" from the terminal has been fixed to read exactly one 
character.

perhaps you stumbled over this?: there are several t+ releases, the character
string is not unique (like it was in the past, as I believe)
