I never heard of the the dommsday bug until last week. I responded by fixing the problem in a one day and we repackaged with the fix and reposted the next day. The doomeday bug was caused by memory fragmentation for large files with x=$(<file). The file was 32M and it required gigs of memory to process. There as a second problem related to UFT-8 locales that was also fixed.
