Here is a blurb I received this morning concerning the Calypso Wireless Dual mode WIFI/GSM product someone mentioned yesterday.

Calypso Wireless says it has completed a joint demonstration with Ecutel of its dual-mode C1250i WiFi-GSM-GPRS VoIP phone. Calypso reports that the phone, which uses a Microsoft VoIP SIP client, was able to successfully interconnect with Cisco Systems' networking equipment on Ecutel's telephone network.

Calypso claims the C1250i's browser can be used both inside and outside a WLAN, maintaining continuous Internet access. Instant messaging between C1250i handsets on a WLAN is also possible, notes the company. The handset's battery reportedly lasts about 4 hours on VoIP calls. The C1250i includes headphones, a cradle with USB cable and an AC adapter. Calypso says it will target the phone at cellular carriers that are looking to increase average revenue per user (ARPU) by offering new features and value added services.
