I just joined this party, coming from the "old" school telephone group
(yep-Avaya, Nortel and the lot). I look at this as a great leap forward. We
are now fully engaged in an asterisk development of our own to replace all of
this legacy crap we have to support. Yes, we have determined it to be cheaper
to just install an asterisk than try to keep this aging junk running;
especially since there is no real solid way of remote work on legacy. I see
the dlink as an option for alot of folks (don't like the rtu fees-way to
avaya/nortel like). Of course, there are options......time to pursue. Looks
like the dlink server is 1600 with no pstn access; so with phones and loaded up
to the pstn, it's price point would still be well below avaya or nortel whom I
am sure is who they are after.

        I guess it was inevitable:

        http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=2&pid=450

        Dual ARM processors. Nice!

One should read closely though with regard to the statement: "Supports
        25 Simultaneous Inbound/Outbound Calls"

If you read the Data Sheet it goes on to say:

"Up to 25 Extensions (5 Included)" and that "Additional extensions are
added via license codes that are obtained via your reseller or directly
        from D-Link."

The D-Link brand will resonate with SOHO buyers for sure. If you want to

interface with the PSTN they suggest using their PSTN-SIP Gateway (the
DVG-3004S) in conjunction with the DVX-1000. In my mind if you want to
interface with the PSTN the DVX-1000 value proposition becomes seriously

        diluted.

What do you guys (and gals) think?

        Regards
