We have used VRRP to great success. VRRP is virtual router redundancy protocol and it provides near real-time ip address fail over. We use it for Linux based routers and Keepalived is a good implementation: http://www.keepalived.org/. The fail over time we have experienced is less than 10 ms. Thanks Jason. I appreciate it. I will put this on my list of things to look at. I would prefer to have a hardware solution prepackaged from a vendor. This is for a customer of mine that doesn't care about spending money, he just wants it to never crash because of hardware.
