I might work for as little as $50 an hour if the customer buys a prepaid block of 40 hours at a time.
However, the point of my reply to the OP is that I start charging as soon as I start working. That includes going over his inadequate description of the work needed. Some people think I am arrogant because I don't do free evaluations. My standard "sales proposal" is rather simple: Ad hoc time - $N per hour(subject to credit approval) Prepaid block of X hours at Y per hour. Some prospects find this to be too arrogant but it filters out the ones who are wasting my time. I should mention that I don't charge people for calls or meetings where I discuss my qualifications.
