Enswitch supports any channel types Asterisk does, including the various SS7 implementations.

In any case, my definition of softswitch would be "Software that switches telephone calls and which runs on commodity hardware and operating systems." I would consider a SIP only system to still be a valid softswitch. If you have a definitive source which says otherwise, I'd be interested in hearing it.
