In my testing, handoffs arenot a problem at all, infact I'd probably say it is an issue that would need to be worked on if say you wanted to cover an entire city with WiFi and sell such a service, but with a decent (I built it from $5 of parts + connectors, etc) antenna and not really trying to get the most distance, I cover the entire first floor of my office building with one antenna, we have ALOT of walls and that's about 8,000 sq feet.

My gripe with the WiFi phones is just the overall reliability. I've tested with one AP and i've tested with five, both in WPA mode and also without. I found the WDS caused the phones alot of problems for some reason, but without WDS one AP or five it works the same and roaming works fine (actually better w/o WDS)

Andrew, the problem is in the protocol, it was never designed to do base switching like Dect which can switch from base to base in about 1.5 seconds.

(it's dependant on the hardware/manufacturer but as I remember it about 20-30 cycles with a cycle being 1/16th of a second)

Cheers,

Dean

All the standalone WiFi phones I have used are crap, and all the ones I have wanted to use others have told me are crap.

However, I've never heard bad things about SpectraLink products....

The best solution will be a Dect phone connected to an ATA.

All the best
