Bart,

I would agree Trixbox has some useless junk and some good.
And yes you are at mercy of the authors.
Unless you edit the code like I did :-)

EasyVoxBox installs from source and is smaller than Trixbox
Is it any better than Trixbox? Not sure :-\

But keep in mind you can do things in Trixbox and other distros with a click of a mouse that could take you weeks
to setup in a pure Asterisk install.
Editing config by config file.

I think Asterisk NEEDS FreePBX or something like it.

My 2 cents...

Trixbox = Asterisk + FreePBX + (other junk add-ons)
Trixbox is good to learn Asterisk on, but once you do, you'll wish you went with pure Asterisk or Asterisk & FreePBX instead FreePBX makes you do things their way - Although it does allow custom scripting. The scripts jump around to many config's. Hard to follow
You won't REALLY learn Asterisk with Trixbox / FreePBX
Your at the mercy of Trixbox / FreePBX Authors - Upgrades have not been smooth
A 'pure' Asterisk box appears and feels more responsive, at least to me

That said, I run Trixbox with 192 TDM ports and around 4000 calls a day without issues.
At some convenient point in time, I will move to pure asterisk install

Trixbox on and Grandstream??? Are you kidding? Or maybe you're talking
about single office 2-3 phones setup. I've seen people crying over it
once there was no way back. But I also know that there are people
installing these systems as well, telling (lying) to the customers that
it'll work perfect, and then disappearing once they've got their money,
(sometimes at twice the original price).

I can agree on fine tuning Trixbox, but not on a home PC and not for
Grandstreams. I agree with shadowym, it has to be supermicro and Aastra
at least. For serious installations, Trixbox is not the solution.
