A few reactions:
No comment from the vendor.... -> it's not as if somebody asked him personally
not LGPL compliant -> Not necessarily, he has the right to ask for permission
to modify his part of the library, to be LGPL compliant all he has to do is
release the LGPL iaxclient modifications again under LGPL, what license he uses
for the rest, is his own choice.

You could do that. How is compliance achieved for the binaries that were
already distributed? They can't be recalled so I guess the vendor has to
make those versions open source in order to comply with LPGL.

report a violation of the LGPL to the copyright owner of iaxclient?

Perhaps Roland could clarify this. The product certainly does include
Qt and iaxclient. I received a copy of the yakaphone source code,
which came with no license information at all. Hard to work out what
my rights and obligations are.
Since the binary distribution, which is a single Windows executable,
incorporates iaxclient, I believe it should comply with section 6 of
the LGPL.
I think the moral here is that just saying something is Open Source
doesn't make it so. If you're going to build on other peoples' Open
Source efforts, you need to respect the license, and probably get your
own license written by someone who understands the subject area.

Just to be clear, it is not a problem that its not open source
compliant
(we don't even supply sources to our softphone), he only has to
release
iaxclient in LGPL to be ok.
(Although if they are using Qt and are using a free version, it's a
violation of the Qt license).
Cheers,
Zoa.

I would say: the source is available, but its not open source.
From http://www.opensource.org/docs/definition.php :
6. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor
The license must not restrict anyone from making use of the
program in
a specific field of endeavor. For example, it may not restrict the
program from being used in a business, or from being used for
genetic
research.
3. Derived Works
The license must allow modifications and derived works, and must
allow
them to be distributed under the same terms as the license of the
original software.
/*Rationale:* The mere ability to read source isn't enough to
support independent peer review and rapid evolutionary selection.
For rapid evolution to happen, people need to be able to
experiment
with and redistribute modifications.

In what way is the software Open Source? I couldn't find
anywhere on
your website to download the souce code, and the license agreement
isn't of any recognised OSS form.
Does the product use any OSS components?

Hello Steve & all Asteriskis,
You can check out the YakaPhone and its OEM derivatives at
www.yakasoftware.com. It is IAX/IAX2, simple, open and you can
use it
with
any server to see if it fits your stability requirements.
