Many people post a blatant advertisement in a new thread or answer on list when someone asks for something that you could potentially provide. Hijacking of threads is not cool.
What seems to be the issue here is that just like any other, this list is a community - and participants have an informal obligation to act responsibly and add value. The fact that the community is here to discuss commercial matters doesn't remove that obligation. Of course it's OK to promote one's services with the occasional announcement; equally it's expected that one will respond with information about such services in reply to someone soliciting such information. But leaping on every thread with 'we sell SIP phones' doesn't add value and is quite properly subject to censure. That's just my 2c worth. And no, I'm not the list police.
