I tried to use a wifi wireless phone, but I ran in to problems with the access points, when you move from one access point to the next one, the signal was lost and the handset was not smart enough to to locate the next access point with out asking the hand set to recalibrate to the new ip address on the access-point, i was interested in using this for a nurse call system, has any thing change, and is there a way to use the wifi service to find hand sets,  thanks   (wifi,sip,wireless-phones,)

I didn't realize he was trying to do local area etc but was looking for
roaming capabilities across wider area.

If you are just looking for onsite paging then a Nira/Ascom box
connected to a server will do what you want though only on a specific
site (lol takes me back - first IT sales job was with Nira but working
on their CT3/Dect systems).

POCSAG encoding software and small vhf transmittter (walkie talkie)
will work. Then you can use "normal" pagers.
