Digium wil buy some emerging companies in the Asterisk Market to extend his
portfolio.
Digium will be bought by Cisco and will become the new Linksys Call Manager. :-)
Maybe Huawei, Chinese have more than one trillion dollars in cash and certainly
are going to buy some American companies, now that the dollar is weak.
A new fork of Asterisk will appear based on the Asterisk 1.2, not 1.4 or 1.6
Some developers will start new forks, small closed groups with very few
resources and slow development cycles.
Some good niche Asterisk forked versions will appear (for fax, use callweaver)
(For X use Y... and so on)
Some bad forks will appear too.
Patches, patches and patches, because Digium will not commit most of them to
the source code.
Customers will keep suffering from so many immature, software and services
companies implementing Asterisk
Commercial and appliance versions based on original code will get the lion
share of the SMB market.
Digium will have all the cards (structure, brand, code, money and people
(Sokol, Switchvox)) and will get the best opportunities
The ones left behind will join forces, maybe fonality, sangoma, callweaver,
druid and others (part of the Asterisk community)
