I really don't like hearing that migrating Cisco phones from SCCP to SIP is a 'painful' or time consuming process. It can be ENTIRELY automated with a little bit of thought and the correct tftp/config file setup.

Those phones you referenced are running the standard, proprietary SCCP (Skinny) load. If you've ever migrated a Cisco phone from SCCP to SIP, you'll understand it can be a painful process, and can be very time consuming depending upon the SCCP revision you are starting from. Also, if you buy a Cisco phone with SCCP, either a new phone or a used phone, to get "legitimate" "authorized" access to the latest Cisco SIP firmware you need to purchase a Smartnet contract for each phone, (which runs around $10-$15 per phone), wait anywhere from a day to a week for your contract to get registered with Cisco, take your registration number and go to Cisco's website and obtain a CCO login. ONCE you have your CCO login, search around to find the SIP firmware download section on Cisco's website and finally download it. That's a lot of headache IMO. Cory J.
