Integrics is offering a USD 300 bounty for a fix for this:

If necessary, we can arrange for additional traces and other debugging
information to be gathered on the affected machine.
The bounty will be paid via PayPal to the first person to have their
code accepted into Digium's subversion repository for inclusion in a
future Asterisk 1.8.X.X version. The bounty is valid until the end of 2012.
