My bad, I didn't run ztcfg after it. I thought that was handled by the
startup script.

Does that mean I need to run ztcfg manually every time I start the server or
something? Or does it do something like compile the
/usr/local/etc/zaptel.conf and only need to be run once?

Have you tried running the debug/confiig utils THEN starting asterisk?

If you have the same problem I'm seeing...watch your /var/log/messsage go
nutz.
