during astridevcon in early may, i sat with russell (asterisk release
engineer) and we worked out some of the platform dependent build bugs in
the Makefile system for asterisk trunk (soon to be 1.4). luigi and i
further sat and worked out another locking/threading bug when DEBUG_THREADS
was turned on and a couple of other build bugs.

admittedly, it may not be perfect, but asterisk on freebsd has come a long
way when i used to keep a massive patch just to get it to build fine.

You guys have done/are doing a great job.

It was later determined the build problem I was replying to was the result of
an attempt to compile on FreeBSD-current which, as you know, is a very
moving target.

Builds on -stable have been working fine for many months, thanks muchly :)

Also many thanks for all the effort with zaptel-bsd, its very greatly
appreciated.

When I made the original post it was in response to all the recent reports
of build problems with out-of-date ports.

Described was a process for getting the latest Asterisk/zaptel-bsd bits working
including obtaining the source via subversion.

Hope someone tried it and enjoyed success..
