You have four options (in order of their conception) for asterisk
  1. libisup from cosini
  2. ss7box from xygnada/sangoma
  3. ss7 from sifira
  4. chan_ss7 from digium
all are cost effective compared to traditional ss7 offerings

the last two are the most recent, and open source, and gaining features rapidly

cosini is the most expensive of the lot, and some say the most mature

we use ss7box extensively because of their saner pricing model

chan_ss7 or ss7_box or something.
there's no 'protocol converter'. you need to bridge the calls, as the
routing is very different

In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there
is no air to get in the way.
